Merdø is an island in the archipelago outside Arendal town, and is well worth a visit. Merdøgaard is a small coastal farm with a captain's home from 1736, kept as it was in 1800, with original interior and furniture. The museum is open in the summer (See dates here), with guided tours in Norwegian every hour between 12:00-16:00. There are two beaches and a small café on the island.
